Abstract:

The case examines the proposed merger between HP and Compaq and explores the impact of this merger upon the companies and the industry as a whole. In particular, the case explores the challenges that a combined HP and Compaq will have competing in various industry segments against both specialists such as Dell (in PCs) and IBM in other segments including services.
